Marotta's American Circumcision Documentary & The Collapse of the Circumcision Lie
Hello everyone. It's Eric Clopper here. You may know of me because of my latest show at Harvard University titled Sex and Circumcision: An American Love Story.
Now, I wanted to give you a few updates, and I mean the primary focus is to talk about the release of a new film, a new documentary called American Circumcision by Brendon Marotta. But before I get into that, I'd like to give you a brief update on what's going on with me, give you a metaphor to think about the burgeoning human rights issue of genital cutting, and then talk about how I see the film contributing to this movement in a critical way and how you can help, and why I think it would be a position of integrity for you to get involved. And it's quite simple to do so to make actually a massive impact.
Now, a brief update on me. I gave my show on May 1st at Harvard. Immediately after I released it online I was terminated. The overall reception of my show online has been fantastic, I mean truly beyond what I could have hoped for, and I just wanted to thank you all so much for your positive feedback and for sharing the show and for asking for interviews and just really being emphatic, enthusiastic. I mean some of the reviews I got were, "Some of the most epic lecture of our time." "A scream of sense in a sea of lunacy that is this world" or "Your words will reverberate for decades, if not centuries to come, you have broken the chains of the blood sacrifice, godspeed my friend" to give a sampling and you could see all the comments and whatnot to see.
I've been inundated with emails, comments, requests for interviews, and friend requests. I just want to say thank you so much everybody. Strangely enough, the view count on the YouTube video has been stuck at 55,000 for a while and people have been like, "That view count is not accurate." I have no idea. But considering the amount of feedback I'm getting and people stopping me on the street saying, "I saw your lecture. Oh my God," It seems like it would be more, but what do I know?
But before I get into Brendon's documentary and kind of how I see it contributing to the movement, I'd like to talk about how I see the movement, the genital autonomy of bodily integrity or anti-genital cutting movement as a whole, whatever you want to call it. I'd like to use a metaphor that I've been playing around with that I think is quite accurate. So, circumcision or less euphemistically called genital cutting, genital mutilation, whatever you want to call it, I see it as a big dam. And behind this dam, we'll call it water, but it's all all of the physical pain, the physical, sexual and psychosexual, psychological trauma that results from cutting into the flesh of children's genitals and removing important parts of their bodies for life and how the brain reacts and how your sexuality and your perception of the world reacts. All of that trauma is held behind that dam.
And that dam of male circumcision is propped up by medical interests who are making billions of dollars a year, who also have a vested interest in not admitting that they have damaged over 100 million men in this country alone in the most intimate and sexually violent of ways possible. And then largely
The overarching ideology that props up the lie that is circumcision, that is this dam, is Judaism and how the covenant of circumcision is essentially a mandate to mutilate your child at birth as an act of ancient rabbinic revenge, which is so profoundly stupid and unethical, it's practically inconceivable.
Now, on the other side of this dam, which we'll call the promised land, is we have an army and it's a literal army, tens or hundreds of thousands of people, if not more, who are chipping away at the foundation of this dam, who are giving people education that the foreskin is just part of the penis. It's just the part of the penis that we've named that we cut off for no reason. Who are giving education of why the scientific studies are bunk. And I go through that in my show and I'd be happy to pontificate for hours because you have to go through all the methodological errors to really describe why these studies were designed to protect circumcision and Judaism essentially or medical interests. I mean I'm sure that they conflate in many ways.
But we have this dam that is collapsing at it's foundation and this is actually measurable, the collapse is measurable of this dam by the falling circumcision rates. They started at 90% in the '60s or '70s, and they're approaching 50% today and they continue to fall. And they're close to 0% in non-religious countries so just to give you a frame of reference at how behind the United States is.
And so, what I did on May 1st is because I'm not a modest man, but it is objectively true and you can look at my background that I am one of the scientific elites of my generation. So I took a broad sword and I ran straight into the side of the dam, of that is the lie of circumcision and I penetrated it. I penetrated that dam and the water is just flooding, which is the truth. Just the awareness that this is a huge problem in our society is just flooding. And that dam, the cracks are fissuring and the foundation is clearly insecure. The effects of these fissuring are very obvious, namely that many, many people with a lot of connections are reaching out and saying, "Hey, how can I help?"
And that's largely how I spend most of my time. Don't worry, I've been busy. I will be prolific on social media at some point, just not yet. For example, I just did a great podcast with Elliott Hulse and we went into all the details. That's another fissure. He's got an audience of 2 million. And so the message is continuing to spread as the, just devastation I did to the foundation of the lie that his circumcision on May 1st continues to spread. Now, it is inevitable that this dam falls. I mean, it is an untenable lie that you must mutilate your children at birth. I mean it is so insane. It is practically conceivable.
Now, I'd like to talk about how I see Brendon Marotta's film, American Circumcision, fits into the broader human rights anti-circumcision movement to take down this dam, this profoundly evil dam that's damaging our kids for life. I see Brendon Marotta's film as another broad sword. It's another broad sword. It is coming right for the face of the dam and it's going to penetrate. And the reason that Brendon's film is so powerful and compelling is it has everyone in it. Everyone in the movement. So we have all of the, with the exception of me, the biggest anti-circumcision pro-bodily-integrity voices on the planet, or at least certainly in this country who have been leading the movement. And you can see that they are sincere and they are compassionate and they are intelligent and they make cogent arguments and they appeal to our humanity, not to hack off parts of our children's body at birth.
This is the most important part of the film because it makes it just impossible to ignore, is we have all of the biggest proponents of circumcisions, so people who are advocating to continue to cut into the flesh of our children and to non-consensually remove functional parts of their reproductive organs. And they come off as callous and insensitive and they are. I mean they range between profoundly stupid to evil; generally, probably a combination of the two. For example, one of the members on the board that actively deceived us, the American Academy of Pediatrics admits that the medical justifications are not compelling and it's really just a tribal custom and well, he's part of a genital mutilation tribe so we should tolerate that.
The thing is, that's not only intolerable, it's radically intolerable. And you could see in my show, he even squeals like a little piggy for me. It's great. I have a lot of great ideas moving forward, so I may do more shows, maybe I'll crowdfund it, but don't worry, I am just getting started. But I'm working on some other things, but I wanted to give a plug for Brendon's film.
And so, Brendon's film is another broad sword and it is coming imminently. It is being released August 31st of this year. And if you are a compassionate, intelligent human being who wants the next generation of children to have a better life than us, than our generation and want to see the world continually improve and be more enlightened and more accepting and more progressive, then I implore you to help and it's very easy to do so. All you need to do is to reach out to your favorite blogger, or podcaster, or journalist. So anyone with an audience. It doesn't matter if they have 10, a hundred, a thousand, 10,000, a hundred thousand, a million or more and say, "Hey, you've talked about either circumcision or sexual health or relationships or religion or just what are acceptable limits of society."
Pretty much there's so many things that circumcision touches on, on an identity level: sex, politics, religion and so on.
Just say, "Hey, this film, I believe, is critical to our enlightenment to protecting our future generation of children. And I just ask that you watch it and see if your audience would be interested."
And I'm sure the answer is usually yes, because this circumcision, genital mutilation, whatever you want to call it, is a problem that profoundly and intimately affects almost every man in the United States and his partner. Because male circumcision doesn't just profoundly harm men. It harms their partners in their social circles as well because it damages them in many ways.
I just wanted to make this film to explain what's on with my life, how I see the circumcision debate just collapsing as this dam collapses and we actually begin to address the underlying problem, which is eliminating the Jewish covenant of circumcision because it is radically unacceptable. Just like we have known that whatever religious mandate you have for cutting into the flesh of your a female daughters is unacceptable. It is equivalent for men if we are to have an egalitarianism society and this is not a men's rights issue, it's a human rights issue. This will actually benefit women greatly as well.
But I wanted to talk about what's going on with my life, kind of how I see the damn collapsing, how I was able to contribute, how Brendon's able to contribute and how you are able to contribute in a very meaningful way by just getting out there, either going on the streets or likely via email, a phone call, reaching out to those people with audiences and just saying, "Hey, I really think that you should see this film. It's incredibly relevant to you for this reason and help get this film in front of as many viewers as possible." Because once you know the sort of truth about genital cutting, it's very difficult. If you were to be a compassionate human being to look away and be indifferent. I'd go as far as to say it's impossible.
But, anyways, thank you for bearing with me in this update and I will definitely be around in the coming months, and we'll see how this dam collapses. But, thanks again for your attention and it's going to be an exciting year.
